Job Background

This role is designed as a hybrid role for an active CFI that will also include a Safety Manager role, with roughly 16 hours per week (for the safety work). Those duties will focus on the day-to-day operation of the safety program, including reviewing and analyzing submitted safety reports, identifying actions (as appropriate) and working with the safety team. The role’s design is for an active CFI to continue in that role as well. The role will report to the Director of Safety.

Job Description:

The Safety Manager collects data, observes systems, and processes, facilitates recommendations for improvements and champions a safety culture throughout the company. A successful applicant will ensure that all processes needed for the SMS are established, implemented, and maintained. Applicants should have a thorough understanding of how to establish and maintain an effective safety culture and be skilled at balancing business needs with operational risk mitigation. This position can be based at our Hillsboro or Redmond (OR) campus.

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the day-to-day tasks of the safety program including SMS reporting, reviewing/investigating/analyzing events, creating potential corrective actions and leading safety team meetings
  • Advise management and staff on safety and regulatory items.
  • Assist the Department Safety Managers in the development of appropriate safety standard operating procedures and policies under HAA’s corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Communicate to all employees the importance of hazard and error reporting.
  • Support a “Just Culture” methodology in all aspects of the safety program.
  • Create and communicate safety and risk mitigation related content to be consumed by staff and students.

Required skills/experience:

  • Strong and proven leadership experience verifiable with references.
  • Flexible schedule to allow for immediate safety concerns or incident resolution.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong judgement
  • Current and qualified HAA CFI

  • SMS concepts, references and processes including the four pillars of SMS
